  • cdm8630.jpgThe CDM8630 mobile phone from UTStarcom is one gadget that you would want to give your parents or grandparent without the fear that they might end up not using it. This mobile phone is packed with easy to use features and functionalities such as large font setting, easy to use menu interface, large keypad, voice activated dialing and text messaging.

UTStarcom must have been annoyed by the slew of high end mobile phones that have been proliferating the market that they decided to come up with a mobile phone that has all the opposites of the most advance mobile phones today. The CDM8630 has all the standard features of the most basic mobile phones such as calculator, alarm, speakerphone, T9 predictive text, vibrating alert among other features.

The CDM8630 has 2.0″ 262K Color TFT (176 x 220) main display. That could pretty much accommodate large font settings that would not put a strain to your eyesight. Dimmed LCD display is the common complaint of mature mobile users when it comes to the current crop of mobile phones in the market.

Now, to give the reason why this device was specifically made for the mature users, well, aside from the large font settings, the CDM8630 also has ten one-touch speed dialing entries and a special “in case of emergency” directory of emergency contacts. A one-touch 911 button is also included in the phone’s interface. So, that pretty much lessens the hassles of navigating through complex menus and searching for important phone numbers buried deep within the phone’s phone number database. That would give mature users an easy time using the CDM8630.

The CDM8630 is currently available through Verizon Wireless and Alltell mobile carriers.

BlackBerry Curve 8310’s GPS navigation system allows AT&T customers to take advantage of location-based applications and services more particularly TeleNav GPS Navigator. The TeleNav GPS Navigator is a very useful turn-by-turn voice and on-screen directions navigation tool with 3-D moving maps and real-time traffic alerts with rerouting advices.

AT&T’s release of the BlackBerry 8310 added up to a series of BlackBerry services which the company has introduced starting with the BlackBerry 8800 and 8820 with built-in GPS and Wi-Fi respectively.

Aside from the GPS navigation system and the two new lively colors, the BlackBerry Curve 8310 also boosts of powerful mobile phone features such as a Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE technology which gives high speed access across U.S. and global roaming capability, web-based application specifically email push which has been BlackBerry’s signature service, a media player and a 2.0 effective megapixel camera. It would have been better though if the camera has a higher megapixel. But as I always say, why would you use your mobile phone as a camera anyway?

  • jama101.jpgi-Mate which has been specializing in Windows Mobile hardware and software solutions and services has quietly announced two new QWERTY mobile phones in its arsenal, the JAMA 201 and the JAMA 101. The JAMA 101 is a dual band phone loaded with Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC that would run fast enough on a 128 MB ROM and 64 mb RAM. It is a multi-function mobile phone that can be a digital camera for quick point and shoot opportunity with its 2.0 megapixel-effect digital cameras that can shot both still and video and even has a 6X optical zoom capability.

In terms of size and portability, the JAMA 101 is small enough to fit in your back pocket at the size of 106mm x 52.5mm x 15.6mm. Weight is also not a problem since it only weighs a mere 100g including the battery pack. The JAMA 101 has a very smooth menu interface that responds smoothly with the 4-way navigation pad and action button. The QWERTY keyboard is strategically located at the back and can be easily slided when needed.

Those mentioned features are pretty standard fare of Smart mobile phones today. So, it would be best to highlight one feature of the JAMA 101 which shows the unit’s modern appeal. The JAMA 101 has 2.4” 65k color 240X320 Transflective touch screen LCD with backlight. It may not be as fluid as the touch screen technology of the iPhone, the JAMA 101’s reflective touch screen LCD is the technology commonly used by video media players. So, you’ll get high quality phone display with the functionality of a touch screen menu control.

i-Mate’s Jama 101 may not be as celebrated as the hype generated by the iPhone’s release, but then its features, functionalities and overall design could very match up with the high and mighty iPhone. The Jama 101 is worth giving a try for Smartphone users.

  • twins_dual_sim.jpgFinally, international travelers’ most sought after mobile feature has been answered by TechFaith with its Twins dual sim mobile phone. Twins is touted as the world’s first dual mode phone, where you can load WCDMA and GSM SIM cards.

If you are an international business traveler who frequently go from one country to another, the Twins mobile phone is the perfect gadget for you. With the Twins mobile phone, you don’t have to worry of having it set for international roaming with your mobile carrier. All you have to do is buy both WCDMA and GSM SIM cards and loaded them up into your Twins mobile phone dual SIM card holder.

WCDMA or Wide Band Code Division Multiple Access is a third-generation high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that use the TDMA or GSM technology worldwide. This is the data service used by United States carriers AT&T and T-Mobile. On the other GSM offers slower speeds than WCDMA. This is the data service commonly used in Asian countries and other parts of the world.

Aside from its dual SIM capacity, Twins is also your usual mobile phone with features such as a 2.0 megapixel camera which is decent enough for taking snap shots of interesting place you’ve been to, an mp3 and mpeg4 player to entertain you during flights and waiting time at the airports, a WCDMA modem for internet connectivity, video calling and Bluetooth capability for fast file transfer and wireless connectivity.

Other than these features, what is left to be said about the Twins is that being a dual SIM mobile phone is enough reason to own it. Twins will be available sometime in November for the European and Asian mobile market. While for the United States it will be available only for mobile carriers that use CDMA technology such as Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel and other carriers.
